Part pop artist, part typographer, part inspirational life coach, and part businessman, NY painter Peter Tunney makes art for the ambitious and goal-minded. His text-based paintings, typically large in scale and focused on rebellious American themes such as "Banana Pancakes," guns, and American Flags, have become a very hot commodity in the past few years, especially since recent collaborations with environment Furniture. The work featured in this post is all one-of-a-kind and available through Shelter Half, but it doesn't come cheap. Pieces started at 10K and only go up from there. Recently we've been drooling at our screens, staring at these crisp images from Cabin Porn. Don't worry; this site is work safe, unless your boss has an issue with steadfast, lone structures holding up proudly against the elements of vast spaces. We think we might have a problem, though. The Neo Shaker Lounge Chair by environment Furniture.

This gorgeously designed armchair originally caught our eye on display over at Shelter Half, a pop-up gallery/marketplace on La Brea Ave in Los Angeles. Filled with down, it took our breath away when we plopped onto it. Just as ergonomically comfortable as it looks, the Neo Shaker Lounge Chair is the perfect chair for filling that space in your home, and heart, for sitting and listening to records or reading your favorite periodical. A beautiful chair. 

 

The Neo Shaker Lounge Chair is a beautifully crafted Shaker inspired lounge chair, made from American Black Walnut harvested in family-run forests in the Northeast of the United States. This chair was skillfully made by a traditional furniture maker in Delaware, and the Frederic Frety design is a pure jewel. The contrast of the reclaimed shelter half army canvas gives a modern twist to this traditional piece that will be the center of attention in any setting. Designed by Fred Frety. Entirely made in the U.S.A.

La Clinica.

La Clinica is a collection of handcrafted furniture produced by local artisans based in three different parts o the world: Madrid, Turin, and Sao Paulo. Each piece is made from solid wood (part of it comes from reused resources) and painted with water-based colors. They are designed to be completely dismountable, lowering the costs of shipping and storage.

What we like is how simple and utilitarian La Clinica's pieces are. Not only are they understated aesthetically, but conceptually we're talking about something very straightforward and easy to grasp. Yet, the end results are sophisticated and downright gorgeous. Very stunning stuff, guys! Keep up the good work.

Les Fermes de Marie.

Les Fermes de Marie is a luxury hotel located in the ski resort village of Megève, France, buried deep in the French Alps. Judging by the following images, we imagine even just a short stay at Le Fermes de Marie would be impossibly surreal and breathtakingly cool.

We like to imagine waking up to fresh powder outside and a long morning on the slopes, following by a fresh, roasted meal and massage. Night skiing would come naturally, ending with drinks in the lodge around an open fire. Les Fermes de Marie embodies the French Alpine spirit tenfold. There is simply no other place in the world like it.

Donald Judd's Furniture.

Donald Judd's furniture has always proved to be an interesting and inviting compliment to his formal and seemingly flawless sculptural artwork. He originally began his furniture design and construction for his own family use at their home in Marfa, Texas.

Though more minimal than luxe, the use of raw materials and simple construction methods in creating sharp and elegantly unique pieces is certainly a source of inspiration for many designers working today. Pictured last is Judd's NY apartment. Rough Luxe before its time? We think so.

Handcrafted Modern.

In this beautifully laid out study, photographer Leslie Williamson investigates and documents the homes of the some of the most influential mid-century designers of all-time. With heavy-hitters such as Wharton Esherick, George Nakashima, Walter Gropius, and of course, the Eames, the images in this book are not only historical in nature, but also inspirational to the fullest extent of the word.

To imagine these creative powerhouses at home, surrounded in their ideal environment is like drinking ice cold spring water directly from the source. By including both zoomed-out shots and close-ups, Williamson creates a very warm and delightful capsule for both architecture and interior design alike. We love this book.
